Castor Oil Hair Challenge| Update #1

I was a couple of days late beginning Hairlista’s Castor Oil Challenge but I am on a roll now. Reading about the benefits Jamaican Black Castor Oil is actually what prompted me to see how I could improve the health of my hair and it ultimately marked the beginning of my hair journey. But that was nearly 2 years ago, I quickly fell off the bandwagon back then because I could not stand the thickness of the oil. I don’t feel like I have many problem areas but overall, I just want to improve the health of my edges, my weird hairline, my barely-there eyebrows, and I want to see if the thin areas of my hemline will fill in.
I am in the intermediate level which requires me to massage castor oil in to my scalp for 2-5 minutes at least 2 times a week (I’ve been doing it about 3 times) and add a teaspoon of castor oil to my weekly deep conditioner. In addition to that, I massage castor oil on my eyebrows and lashes nightly.
The first week of the challenge I used the JBCO mixed with a few drops of tea tree oil. I found that the mix was too thick and made my new grow stick together which made it an issue when trying to detangle my hair. The next week I decided to touch up my roots, because of that I decided to thin the JBCO out by adding olive oil. It weighs my hair down a bit but I don’t mind since I am in buns majority of the time.
Here are some before and after pics:
I don’t see much of a difference in my edges or my hair line but I do see a slight difference in my eyebrows. The other thing that I like about this challenge is that my hair stays moisturized for a longer period of time.
To the ladies participating in Hairlista’s Castor Oil Challenge, have you noticed any visible changes in your hair?

New Product Alert| Have You Tried It? [Updated with Ingredients]

I try my best to stay away from buying new hair products but I was recently in my local beauty supply store juuuust to get a bottle Crème of Nature Intensive Conditioning Treatment because mine had run out and I ran across these two items:

Crème of Nature with Argan Oil| Moisturizing Milk Masque: I saw a YouTuber using this and since I use and love CON’s shampoo and conditioner I was surprised that I have never seen or heard about this. Although its geared toward the curly girlies and transitioners, I am not one to turn down a potential staple deep conditioner!

Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Dicetyldimonium Chloride, Cetearyl Alcohol, Parfum (Fragrance), Polyquaternium-37, Shea Butter, Cicaprylyl Carbonate, Mica, Cetrimonium Chloride, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Isopropyl Alcohol, Avocado Oil, Olive Oil, Argania Spinose Kernel Oil, Panthenol, Phenyl Trimethicone, Polysorbate 60, Dimethiconol, Sunflower Oil, Soybean Oil, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Ceteareth-20, Tocopheryl Acetate, Sodium Acetate, Benzyl Benzoate, Diazolidinyl Urea, Methylisothiazolinone, Cl77891 (Titanium Dioxide), Cl19140 (Yellow 5), Cl 14700 (red 4), Cl 42090 (Blue 1)

ORS Monoi Oil| Anti-Breakage Leave-In Conditioning Crème: I saw this online a few days ago and had no idea that ORS had a new product line. I was tempted to buy it from Amazon for about $13 but then I found out that it retails for $5.99 and I was like “ehm--don’t think so Amazon!” So I was happy when I found it in the store. I was so excited that all I saw was ‘conditioning crème;’  I didn’t realize that it also said ‘leave-in’ until I got home. That’s okay, it says that I can be used for daily styling, curl refreshing, or as a deep conditioning treatment. I think I’ll skip the first two options and go straight for the deep conditioning treatment!

Ingredients: Water, Cetearyl Alcohol, Canola Oil, Stearalkonium Chloride, Glycerin, Dicetyldimonium Chloride, Coconut Oil, Gardenia Tahitensis Flower Extract, Cocoa Butter, Shea Butter, Aloe Vera Leaf Juice, Olive Oil, Panthenol, Tocopheral Acetate, Tocopheral Dimethicone, Polyquaternium- 10, Disodium EDTA, BHT, Citric Acid, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Parfum, Benzyl Benzoate, Benzyl Salicylate, Butylphenyl Methylpropionalm Coumarin, Hexyl Cinnamal, Hydroxyisohexyl 3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde, Limonene, Linaool

As a conditioner connoisseur, these products have me very excited. Have you seen or tried either of them?

Touch Up| Trim or Nah?

So I was completely fed up with my new growth and the thick Jamaican Black Castor Oil was making it worse SO I finally decided to relax my hair. Here’s what went down:016
[1] Based my scalp with JBCO and applied Coconut Oil to my previously relaxed hair
[2] I mixed about 1 teaspoon of Olive Oil and Coconut Oil into the Dark & Lovely No-Lye Relaxer and applied it into the four sections of my hair. I set my timer for 20 minutes but I was done applying and smoothing the relaxer in about 18 minutes
[3] Rinsed with warm water
[4] As a mid-relaxer protein treatment I used Redken Extreme Strength Builder Plus, I let it sit on my hair for about 7-10 minutes and rinsed
[5] Neutralized my hair 4 times with the shampoo that came in the kit
[6] Deep Conditioned my hair using a mix of Crème of Nature Intensive Conditioning Treatment, OGX Argan Oil and Shea Butter, Olive Oil, and JBCO (this was a very moisturizing mix by the way). I deep conditioned for about and hour with my Hot Head Conditioning Cap and rinsed with cold water
[7] T-Shirt dried my hair for about 30 minutes
[8] Since JBCO is a bit thick for my hair I mixed it with Olive Oil and added a few drops of Tea Tree Oil and Grapefruit oil and massaged it into my scalp.
[9] I applied Neutrogena Triple Moisture Leave-In, Lottabody Moisturize Me, and sealed my hair with OGX Coconut Milk Anti-breakage Serum and allowed my hair to air dry overnight in 3 mini buns.
I flat ironed my hair the next day and lightly dusted my ends.
I am finally MBL!!!!!057 (2)
BUT, I doubt I will be here for long!
A part of me wants to wait until I my 2 year HHJ Anniversary and the end of Hairlista’s Castor Oil Challenge and the other part is ready to grab the shears and do this:
Either way, I'll end up trimming back to APL--- I just need a bit of courage to do it sooner rather than later. I’ll be sure to let you all know what I do. Hope you all had a great Wash Day!

Wash Day| with Jamaican Black Castor Oil

056Pre-poo: Massaged a mix of JBCO and tea tree oil into my scalp and applied Coconut Oil in the length of my hair and detangled in four sections057

Shampoo: Lathered twice using Suave Daily Clarifying Shampoo

Deep Conditioner: Mixed Aussie Moist 3 Minute Miracle, 1 Tablespoon of JBCO, and Roux Porosity Control Corrector Conditioner warmed it in the microwave and applied it to my hair. Allowed it to sit on my hair for 35 minutes with my Hot Head Conditioning Cap. Aussie 3 Minute Miracle is great on its own but adding a little bit a Roux took it to the next level for some reason. I wonder if it can do that for the conditioners I have that are not so good.

Leave-ins:  Cantu Shea Butter Leave-in Conditioning Repair Cream, JBCO on my scalp and Olive Oil on the length of my hair.

Honestly, this Wash Day was uneventful. The only thing that I have been having issues with lately is detangling my new growth. I really wanted to wait until April to touch up my relaxer but I don’t want to cause anymore damage to my hair, more than likely I will get a touch up in the next two weeks.

Are you ladies having any hair-related problems?
