Wash Day

5 weeks post and I have reached the halfway mark of my stretch. How I manage my hair from this point on will determine if my stretch ends on a good or bad note. I really need to make sure I keep my new growth moisturized and my ends tucked away.

[1] I put grapeseed oil on my scalp and Pura Body Naturals  Chocolate Hair Smoothie on my strands, covered with a plastic cap and let it sit for about 40 minutes and rinsed

[2] Shampooed my hair twice using WEN Lavender Cleansing Conditioner

[3] Sprayed mixture of Green Tea and Peppermint Oil on my hair and let the excess fall into a bowl before reapplying to my hair.

[4] Applied Nexxus Humectress Conditioner over my tea soaked hair. I covered my hair with a plastic cap and left it on for about 2 hours… I think.. I  got a new gadget in the mail so I lost track of time. I rinsed and let wrapped my head with a T-shirt to soak up the excess liquid

[4] Applied leave-ins: ApHogee Keratin and Green Tea Restructurizer, applied my oil concoction to my scalp and Hairitage Hydration Soft Coconut Marshmallows and allowed my hair to air dry

Wash Day

4 weeks post and my new growth is popping! This wash day was relatively simple:

[1] Hot Oil treatment with coconut oil, peppermint oil, and lavender oil. I covered my hair with a plastic cap and left it on for about an hour and a half… I think… I was too busy running errands. Yes I did walk out of the house with a pink plastic cap on my head… hahaha don’t judge me!

[2] Shampooed my hair 2 times with Nexxus Humectress Shampoo

[3] Deep conditioned my hair with a mix of Hairitage Hydration Pink Grapefruit Punch Conditioner, Herbal Essences Hello Hydration, Pura Body Natural Chocolate  Hair Smoothie, and WEN SixThirteen. I am  trying to use up my massive stash of conditioners. Mixing the ones that I get great results with ones that are so-so. I put a plastic cap on my head and let sit for 45 minutes and rinsed

[4] I did my tea rinse after I deep conditioned my hair only because I was not well prepared and the tea was scorching hot. I used two packs of green tea and 2 drops of peppermint oil. Rinsed

[5] I conditioned my hair again with Nexxus Humectress Conditioner for 5 minutes to soften my hair after the tea rinse.

[5] Applied my leave-ins: apHogee keratin and green tea restructurizer, Nexxus ProMend serum on my ends, my fave oil concoction on my scalp and length, and topped it off with applying Hairitage Hydration Soft Coconut marshmallows on my hair and letting it air dry. I usually air dry in a bun but I just let it all hang out.

Product Review: Optimum Care Essential Nutrients

Price: $1.00 (Dollar Store), comes with 4 leave-in doses

Promise: “Innovative leave-in treatment. Contains essential vitamins and hydrates hair to revitalize dry scalp and restore delicate balance to scalp and hair.”

DSCN5557

I actually came across this item while in the Dollar Store… Yes, the Dollar Store! I thought this would be a great product to try not only because of the harsh winter weather we are experiencing but because it also contains “ceramides, coconut oil, olive oil, and vitamins A, B, and E,” good stuff, right?! I really like the packaging! The product comes in these great ampoules so you can stick them in your purse for a little touch up and it makes applying to your scalp really easy. The product only provides minimal relief for dry scalp, after a few hours your scalp is dry again. I also wish it had a little more product in the ampoule because I felt like it did not have enough to cover all areas of my scalp. When I got it, I thought it was going to be thicker like an oil but it was more like a serum, just a tad bit more watery than a serum. Would I purchase this again--- Meh, not really, but it was nice to try it.

Carol’s Daughter… Coming to a Store Near You!

While flipping through the pages of Essence Magazine’s March Issue, I ran across a great article that features Lisa Price, founder of Carol’s Daughter. DSCN5605Although I have yet to try her products I am excited to know that Carol’s Daughter will soon be available in Target. She will also be launching a new line, the Sacred Tiare Collection that includes a sulfate-free shampoo, conditioner, a restoring hair mask and a smoothing serum. I am super excited to hear about this, hopefully the Monoi Collection will be included in the 21 products she is bringing to Target. This is great for her company as well as my beloved Target.

Will you be more reluctant to try Carol’s Daughter products once they make their way to Target? I think I would!

Wash Day

Yet another Wash Day. I am about 3 weeks post and my new growth is slowly emerging. This Wash Day was relatively simple:

DSCN5621

[1] Hot oil treatment using Grapeseed Oil, eucalyptus oil, and lavender oil. I covered my hair with a plastic cap and left it on for about 30 minutes. That’s all I could take of the oil slowly dripping down the sides of my face!

[2] Shampooed with Organix Coconut Milk shampoo 2 times

[3] Tea Rinsed with Green Tea and I added 3 drops of both lavender oil and peppermint oil. I applied my deep conditioner over my tea saturated hair. I used Nexxus Humectress deep Conditioning Treatment. I covered my hair with a plastic cap and let it sit for about and hour and a half.

[4] Applied my leave-ins: ApHogee Keratin & Green Tea Restructurizer, Oil concoction, Pura Body Naturals MuruMuru Moisture Milk and applied Nexxus ProMend Serum to my ends.

Simple, right!

Wash Day

No complaints this week, since my 7 Days, 7 Protective Styles challenge my hair has been fine. I have also been staying on top of my m&s sessions. I have noticed an increase in shedding which has been concerning me so I decided to nip that in the bud this Wash Day.DSCN5595

[1] Hot oil treatment using coconut oil, peppermint oil, and lavender oil on my scalp and strands. I gave my scalp a gooood massage. I covered my hair with a plastic cap for about 40 minutes  and rinsed

[2] Shampooed my hair using Organix Coconut Milk Shampoo 2 times. This was my first time using this shampoo, it worked pretty well; it cleansed my hair without feeling stripped unlike other sulfate-free shampoos

[3] I saturated my hair with Lady Grey Tea, I spiced it up a little by adding peppermint oil and lavender oil which made my scalp feel divine! Usually, I just spray the tea in my hair and let the excess fall into the sink. But this time I let the excess fall into a bowl and then reapplied it to my hair, I did this about 4 times.

[4] I applied my deep conditioner to my tea saturated hair. I used Nexxus Humectress Ultimate Moisture Deep Treatment. I covered my hair with a plastic cap fir an hour and rinsed using cool waterDSCN5600

[5] I applied my leave-ins: 1) Oil Concoction to hair and scalp, 2) lightly misted ApHogee Keratin and Green Tea Restructurizer to hair, 3) applied Nexxus ProMend  serum to ends, 4) Finally applied Hairitage Hydration Soft Coconut Marshmallows to hair

[6] Let my hair air-dry and dusted my ends

Detangling was a breeze. Check out the amount of hair lost during detangling. I guess that tea rinse worked tremendously.DSCN5601

It’s the Remix!

Who knew that by adding another ingredient to my beloved oil mix would push it to the next level!

Ingredients:

  • Coconut Oil
  • Grapeseed Oil
  • Lavender Oil

…And Introducing the new All-Star member…

  • Peppermint Oil

 oil

No measurements here! I usually eyeball this mix and put it in an amber bottle. I wanted to find a way to combat my itchy, winter scalp. I found relief with using Eucalyptus Oil during my hot oil treatments on my Wash Day but for everyday use the scent of Eucalyptus was just too overpowering for me. The sweet scent of Peppermint Oil was a hit and it also helps soothe my scalp.

What’s your favorite oil mix?

7 Days, 7 Protective Styles

This is a personal challenge for me to help me lay off the flat iron. I would love to stretch this challenge out for 30 days, but hey, baby steps people.7 days

Day 1: High Bun

Day 2: Low Bun

Day 3: Twist Out

Day 4: Two Flat Twists

Day 5: Twist Out

Day 6: Twist Out

Day 7: High Bun

I obviously have to become more creative with my styles. Twist Outs are oh so simple and easy to maintain and I love how it creates volume in hair. I’ll have to try this challenge again though…

What’s your favorite protective style?
