Wash Day

Hey Ladies. I am a little late with this Wash Day Post…

It has been about 2 weeks since my touch up. I have just decided to wash my hair every other week to cut down on the manipulation. So here’s how it all went down…

[1] My pre-poo was a hot oil treatment. My scalp was not happy with me, its used to getting cleansed weekly. I used a mixture of grapeseed oil, safflower oil, and eucalyptus oil. While the oil was in my hair I detangled as well.

[2]I used an oldie but goodie to shampoo my hair this week: GVP Nexxus Therappe Moisturizing Shampoo. I forgot how moisturizing it could be.

[3] I did a protein treatment using Redken Extreme Strength Builder Plus. I was advised to do a protein treatment to keep my underprocessed hair strong. Although I have many products that contain some form of protein this is the first protein treatment that I have ever done. I kept it on my hair for about 10 minutes then rinsed.

[4] I sprayed my hair with Lady Grey tea before applying my deep conditioner

[6] For my deep conditioner I used Pura Body Naturals Chocolate Hair Smoothie. I thought I was going to be annoyed by a product that smells like chocolate but it was not that bad, and it was very moisturizing. I kept the conditioner on for a little over a hour and rinsed.

[7] I applied my leave-ins Murumuru Moisture Milk and sealed in with my oil concoction.

How was your most recent Wash Day?

Touch Up: The Good, The Bad, The UGLY

I was attempting to hold out for another week but decided to end my stretch because I felt I was over-manipulating my hair. Twist-outs were not working especially because it had been raining and humid these past two weeks, and before I could get to work I ended up looking like a poodle. But 11 weeks has been my longest stretch to date. I was so elated when I woke up on Monday morning to do my touch up, but the day did not go as planned.

The Good: I am not bald (yet)

The Bad: I ran out of relaxer doing my last quadrant of hair

The Ugly: A good portion of that quadrant is not relaxed, therefore I am not relaxed! I can feel my roots reverting in my sleep >_<

The Breakdown:

[1] I used Dark & Lovely relaxer. I did not measure it correctly therefore when I got to the last quadrant I tried to stretch out as much relaxer as I had and tried to smooth like my life depended on it to no avail. After that I. Was. TOO. THROUGH! I had no choice but to wash it out.

[2] I applied Silk Keratin Serum for 7 minutes

[3] Neutralized 4 times using Optimum Advanced Keratin and Recovery Neutralizing Shampoo

[4] Tea Rinse using a mixture of Lady Grey and Green Tea

[5] Applied my deep conditioner on top of my tea saturated hair. My DC mix was a little off as well

[6] I applied the moisturizer that came with the relaxer and sealed it in with Organix Coconut Milk Anti-breakage Serum

After I flat ironed my hair I realized it wasn’t that bad. But is there a way I can fix this issue? I don’t know any hair stylists and I have no time to consult with one. I Googled “corrective relaxer” and got freaked out by what I read. HELP!!!

At least my trim came out okay.

I was tempted to grab my brother’s clippers and shave myself bald and get it over with. But I calmed myself down and told myself this is all apart of the Journey.

Wash Day

Hello Ladies!
I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving Break as well as the Black Friday sales, I sure did! Wash Day is a little late, I know, but I have to revamp my Wash Days based on my work schedule. Better late than never. Here’s how my Wash Day went down:
[1] Hot Oil treatment. I used a mix of Safflower Oil, Grapeseed Oil, and Eucalyptus oil. After applying to my hair I covered it with a plastic shower cap and let it sit on there for an hour then rinsed
[2]Shampooed my hair with WEN Lavender Cleansing Conditioner 2x’s
[3] Sprayed Lady Grey tea into my hair and let it saturate before applying my deep conditioner on top of it
[4] Applied WEN SixThirteen. I covered my hair with a plastic shower cap and let it sit for over an hour and a half and then rinsed with cool water
[5] Applied my leave-ins: ApHogee Keratin and Green Tea Restructurizer to my new growth and ends, applied Taliah Waajid The Great Detangler, and sealed it all in with my favorite oil mix: Grapeseed Oil, Coconut Oil, and Lavender Oil.
I am 10 weeks post so I am due for a touch up, but my stretch is going well. Before my hair journey, I was worried about walking around with a “nappy head” so I was quick to get a relaxer. Nowadays I just don’t care if other people think my hair is nappy, as long as I can manage it I am okay. I am going to try to stick it out for another week or so.
I had a great Black Friday I got some hair products that I wanted to try. I still haven’t found a flat iron that I am willing to invest it. If you know of a good one feel free to share. I was also able to get a new camera which I am very happy about, now I can add more pics to my blog :)
Hope you all had a great holiday!
When do you plan on ending your relaxer stretch?

Vitamin Hiatus

Very early in my hair journey I learned about women taking vitamins to increase hair growth. After doing my own research I began taking Biotin and MSM at a low dosage. When I felt comfortable (meaning when the bottle was gone and I had no crazy side effects) I amped the dosage, but not too drastically.DSCN5398

For the past two months, I have been noticing more acne appear on my face. When the bumps finally go away, they leave dark marks on my face. Because I have never had acne problems in the past, the cause was easy to pinpoint. Since I did not know which of the vitamins was the culprit, I just stopped taking both.

Crater face at 24 or long hair??

Whether taking vitamin supplements aid in hair growth or not, I will stick to my occasional bump during my cycle and call it a day!

Have you had any negative side effects with taking vitamins? Please share.

Wash Day

It seems that with all of the holiday chaos I Have been neglecting my hair. With neglect and this winter weather my hair and scalp have been craving some TLC, what better way to make it up than with a Wash Day… right?

[1] I used a hot oil mixture consisting of Grapeseed oil, Safflower Oil, Eucalyptus Oil, and Lavender oil for my pre-poo. I massage the oil into my scalp and let it sit for about 30 minutes before rinsing.

[2] I shampooed my hair twice. My first shampoo I use Organix Coconut Milk Shampoo, then rinsed. I then shampooed my hair with WEN Lavender Cleansing Conditioner and rinsed

[3] I deep conditioned my hair with Pura Body Naturals Chocolate Hair Smoothie for about 30 minutes.

[4] Sprayed ApHogee Keratin and Green Tea Restructurizer in my hair then applied Pura Body Naturals Murumuru Moisture Milk and sealed in with my favorite oil mix: Grapeseed oil, Coconut Oil, and Lavender Oil.

This wash day was so-so. I need to find a better way to manage these different textures in my hair. After shampooing, my hair was matted and that made detangling a nightmare. I thought the Chocolate Hair Smoothie would help, but I ended up applying Herbal Essences Hello Hydration and detangling my hair in the shower *whew*. I usually don’t have trouble detangling my hair until 6 weeks post. Its safe to say I will be counting down until I can correct this under processed hair… 3 more weeks!

Any tips on how to manage different textures, especially on Wash Day??
