Wash Day

8/31/2013

Hello ladies, I had a busy weekend and week that’s why I am publishing last weeks Wash Day so late.

Last Saturday I woke up feeling extremely lazy. I am sure you ladies can relate to feeling like Wash Day is such a chore. But then I stopped myself and said “you got to this point by sticking to your routine.” Last week I flat ironed my hair for a job interview and realized that I am about 4 inches from my goal of having bra-strap length hair. I was so excited, and if it is true that your hair grows about 1/2 an inch every month then I should be BSL in about 8 months (IF I don’t have any set backs AND IF I don’t get scissor happy during my next touch up *crossesfingers*).

Shampoo: L’Oreal Power Moisture Hydrating Shampoo

Tea Rinse: I used a Mint Medley that contained peppermint and spearmint tea

Deep Conditioner: Tresemme Moisture Rich conditioner. Covered my hair with a plastic bag and cap for 1 hr 30mins.

Leave In: I sprayed ApHogee Keratin and Green Tea Restructurizer on my hair paying special attention to my new growth. I used Eden BodyWorks Coconut Shea Leave-In on length. Applied Soultanicals Knot Sauce on my scalp and roots. Put Organix Coconut Milk Anti-Breakage Serum on length and sealed everything in with an oil concoction that contains coconut oil, lavender oil, and grapeseed oil and let it air dry.

Wash Day

8/24/2012

This Wash Day is officially the halfway marker of my relaxer stretch. The plan is to stretch for another six weeks but as long as I don’t relax before ten weeks then I’m good. This week I mostly kept my hair in cornrows, when I finally took the braids out my hair seemed so big which I am love #bighurrdontcurr lol.

Pre-poo: None

Shampoo: L’Oreal Power Moisture Hydrating Shampoo

Tea Rinse: I used one chamomile tea bag and another tea bag that contained peppermint and spearmint. If you do tea rinses then you know that certain tea tends to make your strands hard, that’s why I like using chamomile tea because it does not cause my hair to harden.

Deep Conditioner: I used L’Oreal Damage- Erasing Balm, paying close attention to my new growth and I used Tresemme Moisture Rich Conditioner on my length. I covered my hair with a plastic bag and then covered it with a plastic shower cap and left it on for an hour.

Leave-In: I used Eden BodyWorks Coconut Shea Leave-In on my whole head, followed it up by using Organix Coconut Milk Anti-Breakage Serum on length and ends and sealed it all in Hairitage Hydration Silk n’Aloe Cream.

I allowed my hair to air dry the rest of the way and then I put two cornrows in my hair.

Hot App!

In the world of smartphones and tablets there is an app for just about everything. If you are beginning a hair journey of your own but don’t want to dedicate your time to journaling or blogging or if you are just a busy mom with a household full of tresses to keep track of and maintain you can download this helpful app, Hair Journal, from the iTunes app store.

Hair Journal allows you to create multiple profiles if needed so you can keep track of more than one mane at a time. This app isn’t just for relaxed heads, you can customize your profile whether relaxed, natural, or even texlaxed. It also allows you to set and keep track of your hair goals as well as the products you use. You can also store your photos so you can keep track of your hair journey. I love that this app is easy to use and with a busy lifestyle it is nice to have things at the tip of your fingers, literally. I recommend the version that costs 99 cents, you can store as many products as you like and can create an unlimited amount of profiles.

Wash Day

8/10/2013

Another Saturday, another Wash Day. This week my new growth is definitely popping and it is such a surprise especially considering that I am only 4 weeks post relaxer. This week I have been doing great with moisturizing and sealing my hair daily. I have used heat twice this week but only on my bang. My go-to style this week has been a low bun. By the end of the week I was rocking cornrows. I think cornrows will be my new go-to style after wash day, maybe during the week I will try a braid-out.

Pre-poo: I did a hot oil treatment with  a mixture of Grapeseed Oil, Lavender oil, and Eucalyptus oil. I covered my hair with a plastic shower cap and allowed the mixture to sit on my hair for an hour.

Shampoo: GVP Nexxus Therappe Moisturizing Shampoo

Tea Rinse: Used to  two Chamomile tea bags

Deep Conditioner: I used TRESemme conditioner and covered it with a plastic shower cap and let it sit on my hair for an hour

Leave-In: I sprayed ApHogee Keratin and Green Tea Restructurizer on my roots. I put Soultanicals Knot Sauce on scalp, length, and ends. I sealed in the moisture with Organix Coconut Milk Anti-Breakage Serum.

I allowed my hair to air dry and then I put it in a braid. The next day I was going to put more cornrows in my hair but I decided to flat iron my hair. The results were great,I have not flat ironed my whole head in a while. My hair looks much healthier and it has a lot more volume.

Product Review

EDEN BodyWorks: Coconut Shea All Natural Leave-In

Price: $9.99 for 8 oz. edenbodyworks.net

Promises: Coconut Shea All Natural Leave-In Conditioner is a daily conditioning treatment formulated with one of nature’s best moisturizer, Coconut Oil, to penetrate and revitalize tresses. Blended with Shea butter to seal in moisture. Sulfate free formula is safe for color treated hair, chemically treated hair, curly or straight hair.

Initial Reaction: First off let my thank Candice for recommending this line of products to me. I love the scent of coconuts but this product’s scent is disappointing. It smells like soap and artificial coconuts.

As a Daily Moisturizer: This leave-in is very moisturizing and it has a great consistency. A dime size of this product goes a long way. If using this product alone you would have to apply it about every other day. But if you want it to last longer it is best to seal it in with an oil. This product is not as great as my Soultanicals Knot Sauce, but it is good enough to be rotated into my routine. The only drawback with this product is that it tends to build up with daily use.

As a Leave-In Conditioner: Being that this is a leave-in, this is where the product works best. I put this on my hair after deep conditioning it and in the morning my hair was still moisturized. I would say that this product works best on damp hair.

Overall, this is a great leave-in. It does double duty by working as a daily moisturizer as well as a leave-in conditioner. It is very moisturizing, has a nice consistency and a decent scent. I will be repurchasing this product.

Crème of Nature: Strength and Shine Leave-In Conditioner

Price: $4.99 (8.45 Fl. oz.)at Rite Aid

Promises: “This unique two-phase formula combines Argan Oil liquid shine and a strengthening protein complex that improves hair strength, protects against damage and adds luminous shine and moisture.”

Initial Reaction: So as you all know I am currently searching for a new moisturizer, I know that this is not technically a daily hair moisturizer but neither is my beloved Soultanicals Knot Sauce…

As a Daily Moisturizer: The packaging of this product is great in that it is a spray bottle and I really appreciate that the nozzle deposits a light mist so that you are not soaking your roots. I think this product will be great deeper into my relaxer stretch, since it is a spray it makes for easy application to the roots of my hair. I love the light scent and initially this leave-in left my hair moisturized but as the product dries the moisture wears off.

As a Leave-In Conditioner: Eh- is all I have to say. Again, it left my hair moisturized initially but in the morning that moisture wore off.

I will not repurchase this product. The scent is the best thing that came out of this product but the moisture is not long-lasting. This leave-in has keratin and wheat protein so it will be good at giving my new growth strength. So in the meantime I have been using the L.O.C method with this product.
